Shelly-Ann Eweka

Shelly-Ann N. Eweka is a consummate financial planning thought leader. With more than three decades of experience in the financial services industry, Shelly became a nationally recognized financial planner and speaker, dedicated to bringing awareness and actionable solutions to address the persistent race and gender disparities in retirement savings.

At TIAA, she was a senior director of research & strategic program initiatives at the TIAA Institute. Also, Shelly supported TIAA’s mission to provide clients with guidance that met their financial needs both before and during retirement. She also led a team of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals, guiding financial plan development and advisor support in TIAA’s wealth management division.

Before joining TIAA, Shelly was a relationship manager at Chase Manhattan Bank, a financial planner/workshop presenter at Ernst & Young, and a financial planner at the Vanguard Group.

Throughout her distinguished career, Shelly was known for proactively delivering forward-looking, research-based content across various platforms to inform and empower both professionals and consumers.

In addition, she spearheaded several strategic initiatives, including the launch of the Black Indigenous Women of Color Financial Advisors/Planners group at TIAA. She also actively participated in multiple employee resource groups focused on leadership development, cultural inclusion, and financial equity.

As a financial services expert, Shelly has appeared on CNBC’s “Your Money” and “Squawk Box” shows. Her insights have been widely sought by major media outlets, including Bloomberg, CNBC, USA Today, Black Enterprise, CNN, Yahoo, and numerous podcasts and financial platforms. She has spoken frequently at prominent conferences and webinars, including the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement, the American Council on Education’s Women’s Network Conference (North Carolina chapter), and a nationally attended financial literacy event hosted by George Washington University featuring researchers, policy makers, and journalists.

Shelly joined the board of the College in January 2024 and has been an Arbitrator for FINRA since July 2004. In previous leadership capacities, she chaired both the Disciplinary and Ethics Commission and the Commission on Sanctions Fitness for the CFP Board, and served on the CFP Board Appeals Commission.

Shelly holds a Master of Taxation from Northeastern University, a Certificate in Financial Planning from New York University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Over the course of her career, Shelly earned and maintained numerous professional designations and licenses:

  • CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ mark (CFP Board), held from July 30, 2001, through September 30, 2025.

  • Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®)

    designation through The American College of Financial Services, held from February 1, 2011, through December 31, 2025.

  • Retirement Management Advisor® (RMA®)

    designation through the Investment and Wealth Institute, held from May 1, 2023, through April 30, 2025.

In addition, Shelly held multiple securities licenses over the course of her financial services career, including:

  • Series 7—General Securities Representative Examination

  • Series 24—General Securities Principal Examination

  • Series 63—Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination

  • Series 65—Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination

These licenses remain valid through January 10, 2027, and reflect her extensive regulatory and investment advisory expertise.

Shelly has maintained her Life/Accident and Health Insurance License, held from November 1998 through September 2025, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to supporting client protection and planning needs.
